How we work…

At RVA4Wellness, our staff utilizes a coaching model. We aim to provide the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to enable our clients to reach their maximum potential. We coach our clients to wellness through personal empowerment.

Our methodology is simple: We guide our clients to recognize the factors that are negatively impacting them,
then discover and implement strategies that will maximize their joy and performance.

Our Staff

I am Robert. I am husband to my wife, Kim. We’ve been married for 33 years, and we currently live west of Richmond, Virginia.

Few things are more exciting for me than to talk to, and listen to, couples approaching engagement and marriage. A premarital counselor helps the couple identify and address any potential issues or conflicts that may arise in the marriage, and provides them with the tools and skills needed to build a strong and healthy relationship. This may include discussing communication, conflict resolution, financial management, and other important topics. The goal of premarital counseling is to help couples build a strong foundation for their marriage and to increase the chances of a successful and fulfilling relationship.

I’m a certified facilitator using the Prepare/Enrich tool, the #1 pre-marriage and marriage assessment tool for the last 35 years. Using this proven tool, Robert will guide couples down a practical path of exploring the foundations of healthy relationships, with a special focus on the spiritual dynamics of marriage.

How would you like to move forward with improving your relationship?

Marriage Basics

Using Prepare/Enrich, Robert will administer and then explain and help you apply the results of this relational personality test. This will take 4 meetings, online ($400).

Marriage Development

Going beyond the basics, Robert will help work through every aspect of married life, facilitating conversations and worksheets addressing finances, sexuality, spirituality, chores, in-laws and more. For these 9 meetings, the online version is $725.

Jason Helmlinger started his career in law enforcement gaining a multitude of experience. He served in several units including uniformed patrol, SWAT, and the Organized Crime Section. He was a firearms instructor and peer support leader but spent most of his time in the Investigative Section, investigating sexual assaults and violent crimes. In the midst of his law enforcement career he became an ordained pastor. His time in law enforcement and ministry not only fulfilled his desire for helping people, but also gave him new insight as to why the mental health of people who help people is so important.

His second career will focus not only on that, but a range of other areas of wellness. Taking an early retirement to complete his master’s degree in Crisis Response and Trauma Counseling at Liberty University, he will focus on First Responders, marriages, families, and those who have been affected by crisis and trauma. Jason is also trained in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) as well as Couple Therapy (Hope Focused Approach). He is qualified for individual and group session counseling.

Jason has been married to his wife, Mandy, for 26 years and has 4 children and a daughter-in-law. Jason and Mandy are patiently awaiting grandchildren.
